Kensington, Md. – Roy O. Priest, Chair of the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC), has been named a “2024 African American Living Legend.” Commissioner Priest will receive this award during ceremonies on Friday, June 14, as part of Montgomery County’s 2024 Juneteenth celebration.

Kensington, Md., May 16, 2024 – The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) today announced it has been selected as one of four winners of the 2024 Ivory Prize for Housing Affordability, a national award to recognize ambitious, feasible, and scalable solutions to housing affordability. HOC was honored for its successful deployment of the Housing Production Fund (HPF), an innovative financing tool that addresses the critical need for more affordable housing.

Housing Opportunities Commission Launch Nonprofit Preservation Fund

Kensington, Md., May 14, 2024 - Montgomery County and the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County have launched the Nonprofit Preservation Fund (NPF) to preserve affordable housing. The NPF will be funded with $50 million by Fiscal Year 2025 to provide low-interest, interim loans to support the acquisition and preservation of naturally occurring affordable housing (NOAH) by nonprofit developers and HOC.

This prominent group of finalists, selected from the Top 25 announced in February, are presenting tangible and innovative housing solutions as Americans are increasingly priced out of safe and affordable housing.

Kensington, Md, Feb. 22, 2024 – The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) is excited to announce selection of the Housing Production Fund (HPF) as a Top 25 finalist for the 2024 Ivory Prize for Housing Affordability, a national award to recognize ambitious, feasible, and scalable solutions to housing affordability. This prestigious group of finalists are presenting tangible and innovative housing solutions as Americans are increasingly priced out of safe and affordable housing.
The Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC) received an Award of Merit from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) at the association’s national conference held in New Orleans, October 6-8, 2023. HOC received this prestigious award in the Affordable Housing Category for its innovative Housing Production Fund (HPF). In addition, as an Award of Merit recipient, HOC was nominated by a regional NAHRO jury of judges for consideration by a national jury to receive NAHRO’s National Award of Excellence. Winners of this Award of Excellence will be announced at NAHRO’s national conference in Washington, DC, in the spring of 2024.

Administrative Plan Revision/Addition
The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) has developed proposed additions for its Administrative Plan for the Housing Choice Voucher program (“Administrative Plan”). The proposed changes involve the administration of forty-two Incremental Vouchers awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) These revisions will go into effect following approval by HOC’s Commission.

- Individuals and families who are currently experiencing homelessness;
- Individuals and families at risk of homelessness;
- Individuals and families fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence, dating violence, stalking sexual assault; and
- Veterans and families that include a veteran family member that meet one of the preceding criteria (1-3).
